DEC2024 - Crocodile Sighting in Breakwater Marina

An important update for our Marina Community and Precinct neighbours;

Since our last notice, we can report there has been other confirmed sightings of a crocodile within our Marina Basin in the past few days with photos sent through. These sightings have all been reported to the Authorities who are monitoring the situation and taking appropriate action where needed.

- *Important* - We do not want to alarm our community; being located in tropical North Queensland and in crocodile country we remind all customers that no natural waterway is ever 100% risk-free from marine dangers like crocodiles or box jellyfish.

- If you have young children, pets, or plan to be on or near the water, we urge you to exercise extra caution and reconsider/adjust your plans, especially if you are using smaller watercraft/tenders/inflatables, using paddleboards or being anywhere around the water's edge.

- If you have new neighbours or friends that are unfamiliar about swimming/using waterways in North Queensland, please let them know about these recent reports.

If you spot a crocodile, please report it immediately to Marina staff and send a report (& photos) to the authorities via this link: https://environment.desi.qld.gov.au/wildlife/animals/living-with/crocodiles/sightings

Crocodile sightings in our Marina basin are rare and we're not trying to scare our boating community but asking for your vigilance and care whilst around the piers, going out on the water in smallcraft or if you have any guests that may be visiting the Marina Precinct.

Please call the Marina Office if you have any questions;
With thanks - THE BREAKWATER MARINA TEAM

Subject: Important Safety Notice:
Water Safety and Recent Crocodile Sightings

Dear Marina Community,

As we approach the New Year’s celebrations, we want to remind everyone to stay vigilant and prioritise safety if you are planning to head down to the Marina, or head out to watch the fireworks out on the water.

RECENT CROCODILE SIGHTING:   We would like to inform you that a recent sighting of a crocodile in the marina basin was reported today. While such sightings are rare, we ask all marina guests and vessel owners to exercise caution while on or near the water.

If you observe further crocodile sightings, please notify marina staff immediately and report online at:

https://environment.desi.qld.gov.au/wildlife/animals/living-with/crocodiles/sightings

This will allow the local Authorities to monitor the situation and take appropriate action as needed;  this time of year we see an increase in activity on the water and around the Marina Piers, so it's important to be mindful of potential hazards onboard and around the Marina precinct to ensure everyone enjoys the festivities safely.

With thanks,

THE BREAKWATER MARINA TEAM
