To All Our Marina Customers,
Tropical Cyclone Jasper Update 2 – Thursday 7 December 2023 at 1300
It’s been widely broadcast today that TC Jasper has intensified as predicted and will continue to do so into Thursday night to a Category 4 strength system and possibly a Category 5 on Friday.
As of BOM’s most recent Bulletin at 11am, the system was 1320 kms NE of Cairns and reported to be moving slowly in a SSW direction towards the far NE Coral Sea.
It’s predicted that TC Jasper will weaken over the weekend but how much is uncertain. The BOM’s forecast modelling has revised Jasper’s track over the weekend to shift more westerly which has revised the likely impact area to a broad span of coast between Cooktown and Mackay. The timing and severity of Jasper’s landfall is yet to be determined so we’ll need to monitor the system’s progress closely.
We will continue to monitor the TC Jasper updates from BOM and provide our Marina customers with notices of advice in support of you preparing your vessel and of any changes we make to our Cyclone Warning System in accordance with out Cyclone Management Plan (CMP).
For now, there are no declared Warning or Watch Zones so Breakwater Marina will remain in Condition Green which is the first and normal state of readiness phase of our Cyclone Warning System under our Cyclone Management Plan.
Despite the uncertainty of TC Jasper’s movements and intensity over the weekend and into early next week, it’s important to use the time productively and keep progressing your readiness measures on your boat before the conditions deteriorate. It helps our Emergency Management enormously if you can send us a message when you’ve completed your own preparations so we can track the progress of all boat owners. And finally, should you identify any problems or concerns around the Marina, please let us know as soon as practicable so we can assess it and deliver a solution if necessary.
As is always the case, don’t hesitate to contact us should you need any help.
